MINI Challenge has just completed its inaugural season of racing in Australia crowing the first series champion Neil McFadyen from the M3 Motorsport Team.
MINI Challenge provided some of the most exciting racing seen in 2008, two and three wide passing manoeuvres were the norm at most tracks, bringing crowds and television audiences alike to the edge of their seats. 2008 saw some monumental racing including the return after 40 years of MINI to Bathurst. With lap times astounding the pundits MINI arrived back at the Mountain to universal applause. Race 2 in particular had teams crossing every digit as the result came down to the last corner after staggering number of lead changes.
With a class field of drivers including V8 supercar drivers Jason Bargwanna and Grant Denyer as well as gold star champions Paul Stokell and Neil McFadyen MINI Challenge proved popular to all levels of enthusiasts. Many drivers made a name for themselves this year like Nathan Geier who started as a privateer outfit and ending up with a fully sponsored drive for one of the leading teams – DecoRug.
MINI Challenge will return to the V8 Supercar calendar in 2009 with an outstanding schedule of events.
