Emma McKinlay.

Emma McKinlay is the Adelaide based Designer and Artisan behind the hand crafted leather accessories range Jade and Beckett. The name Jade and Beckett sits very dear to Emma's heart as it is the combined middle names of her two young children.

Emma's artistic nature was apparent from an early age where she would often draw and hand sew from the scraps of her mother’s sewing case, however is wasn’t until after her trip to London earlier this year that Emma’s creative flair was able to truly flourish. Emma visited the Victoria and Albert Museum's fashion gallery, which is where she became captivated with a projection of an Artisan hand-crafting a pair of leather brogues. Watching the process of the craftsmanship was the beginning of her love for working with leather and the Jade and Beckett journey.

The initial range of Jade and Beckett was recently unveiled to the public at the Adelaide Fashion Festival and received an overwhelming positive response, which has given Emma an insight into the possibilities for her brand.

The MINI Bright Rays Grant would give Emma the chance to set up a professional business destined to succeed. It would provide Jade and Beckett with branding and marketing, an eCommerce website, a lookbook and the opportunity to achieve its wholesale and exporting dreams. The grant would also be used to purchase more materials and a leather sewing machine, enabling Jade and Beckett to create more products. Emma would also be able to employ a local artisan to help achieve her goal to produce a number of other designs in various colours and styles.

Most importantly the grant will provide Emma with a mentor, who she believes will inspire and motivate her, encouraging her success.
