SETON'S SUPERGP MINI CHALLENGE!
He's one of the most respected and revered drivers to have ever raced a V8 Supercar or Touring Car and he’s strapping into the Pizza Capers UBER Star MINI Challenge John Cooper Works (JCW) R56 for the upcoming Nikon SuperGP in Surfers Paradise.
1993 Australian Touring Car Champion and 1997 V8 Supercar Champion Glenn Seton will make his MINI debut around the streets of the Gold Coast after a brief but exciting stint behind the wheel of an R56 JCW at Queensland Raceway recently as part of the MINI Challenge Roadshow.
"I have to say I was impressed with the brakes and handling of the Mini. Your braking distances to the corner is nearly half that of a V8 Supercar and the cars are very enjoyable to drive at speed with great cornering grip."
Though Glenn’s been around Motor Racing his entire life, the QR Roadshow opportunity was remarkably his first experience racing a MINI.
"Dad (Bo Seton) raced them in the 60's, but up until the Roadshow I'd never tried one before".
As fate would have it, Seton's MINI Challenge debut will come at a circuit where late braking and courageous cornering are a hallmark – the Gold Coast SuperGP layout.
"The last time I raced at the Gold Coast track was in 2005 with DJR," Seton recalls, "but I have raced there each year until that point. It's a great circuit and one that requires complete commitment and timing."
"I have to admit the idea of racing at a track like Gold Coast in a car that handles like the MINI Challenge cars is pretty appealing. The combination of that track and racing these cars will be a great opportunity and I'm looking forward to it."
Glenn Seton is a legend of Australian motor racing who competed in 21 Australian Touring Car Championships (ATCC) and was crowned the winner on two occasions in 1993 and 1997 the first year of V8 Supercar.
The V8 Supercar Series replaced the ATCC in 1997 and Glenn continued to race full time for four different teams until 2006.
He teamed up with Stone Brother's Racing for the 2006 endurance races and joined long-time friend Mark Skaife at HRT for the 2007-08 Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000.
Still widely acclaimed as one of Australia's greatest ever racecar drivers, Seton's confirmation as the "UBER Star" driver for the sixth round of the 2009 MINI Challenge, delivered by Pizza Capers, at the Nikon SuperGP.
The 2009 MINI Challenge, delivered by Pizza Capers, celebrates and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the iconic MINI in Australian Motoring and Motorsport.
